Vectolabs Technologies Showcased First NB-IoT & Radar Traffic Detection Sensor in Malaysia at Maxis IoT Challenge 2019
CYBERJAYA, 21 AUGUST 2019 – Vectolabs Technologies engineered the first ever NB-IoT traffic detection sensor using radar technology known as ‘SenseRad’ in Malaysia. The integration of radar technology and NB-IoT with traffic management and safety is the first of its kind in the country.
The radar-based device is an outcome of a collective development effort of En. Khairul Khaizi Mohd Shariff, Researcher from the Microwave Research Institute (MRI) of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), and Ir. Dr. Megat Zuhairy, Chairman of IR4.0 Task Force and Head of Competency, Innovation and Performance Division, Public Work Department Malaysia (PWD/JKR).
SenseRad is a traffic detection sensor that utilizes radar and NB-IoT connectivity. The device works in tandem with Vectolabs’s smart streetlights. The device aims to solve several traffic issues such as:
- The inability of existing traffic detector (inductive loop sensors) to detect the presence of vulnerable road users including motorcycle and bicycle riders, and pedestrians.
- To develop a more reliable and less intrusive traffic detector for Asian cities.
- To optimize energy usage of the streetlights by controlling the brightness only with traffic detection.
Dr. Megat Zuhairy adds, “RadSense introduces affordable intelligent capabilities in traffic management and analysis using Radar and IoT technologies”.
Vectolabs Technologies Sdn Bhd is an IoT device company funded by the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) based in Cyberjaya, Selangor. The company focuses on developing hardware and software for smart city applications using LPWAN technologies, e.g. LoRaWAN and NB-IoT.
